While walking through the beauty section of T.J. Maxx this weekend, I came upon this beauty of a nail kit from SpaRitual.
SpaRitual Nail Polish Kit
I literally squealed with delight because I’ve been wanting to try nail polish from their brand for quite some time but could never find it anywhere. This was the last one they had too, how lucky! I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the ethics (sweatshop labor? fair trade?) surrounding the products I buy along with the ingredients inside of them (organic? Big 3 Free when it comes to nail polish?) and want to become a better consumer. I’m not a vegan but I really dig that this polish is vegan friendly, doesn’t test on animals and according to their website, their bottles are made from reusable glass. Additionally they’re certified organic, fair trade, and free of DBP, toulene, formaldehyde resin, and formaldehyde aka ALL THINGS BAD!
SpaRitual – Multi Tasker Base & Topcoat
Included in this kit is a base and topcoat. I used this as a topcoat since I like my basecoat to be a tad pigmented. Not too much, just a little. Oh, another thing I thought about was “gee this bottle is so small, where do they put the name of the polish?
SpaRitual – Multi Tasker Base & Topcoat
On the bottom of course. Unfortunately my camera didn’t pick this up well but it’s there, I promise!
SpaRitual – Idyllic
Up first in the kit is Idyllic. It’s your classic nude pink creme with a glossy finish even without a topcoat. I don’t now that I’d use it as the base for a french manicure as I would some other colors similar to this only because it wasn’t as pigmented as I like. Another cool thing about this brand – remember how they have the name of the polish on the bottom? They also have the finish on there as well. Pretty cool!
SpaRitual – Idyllic
Again my camera didn’t pick it up quite well but it’s there!
SpaRitual – Epicurean
Epicurean is a burgundy shimmer and while the color in the bottle was beautiful, it looked very streaky on my nails. I liked how pigmented it was and perhaps with three coats I could really get out that burgundy shimmer because that really didn’t come out with just two coats.
SpaRitual – Mystic
Mystic is a beautiful taupe creme that I am naturally biased to scream FAVORITE OF ALL on account of my love for nudes. In my defense, this bias is fair when it comes to Mystic. At first I didn’t think I was going to like it because the first coat came out a little streaky but the second coat covered that and the topcoat evened everything out.
SpaRitual – Can You Dig It?
Can You Dig It? immediately reminded me of my dad. No not because of the color but because he always used to use that phrase when I was younger, as a way to ask if I understood what he was saying usually after specifically telling me not to do something, said thing which I would probably go on to do anyways because I was really hardheaded growing up. Anyways, Can You Dig It? is a brown shimmer with a gold shine to it. The application was very smooth and the shimmer very subtle. This would be absolutely perfect for fall.
SpaRitual – Crystal Eyes
The top row of polishes in this kit were very classy and “grown” with the bottom row bringing the fun and noise. The first color up in the bottom row is Crystal Eyes, a blue creme. Application was an absolute dream and the color is so pigmented. This blue screamed “nautical” and is perfect for summer!
SpaRitual – Emerald City
This color definitely had me fooled. Upon first glance I thought Emerald City was a teal but on my nails it came across as a jungle green which would make sense I guess since it is described as a rich green creme. The bottle color was pretty but I didn’t like it on my nails. Despite putting on three coats, albeit very thin coats, I could still see the white tips of my nails and I didn’t care for that. Also with or without the topcoat, the color came out more jelly than creme.
SpaRitual – Star Gazer
Star Gazer is a purple glitter that is beautiful. The name of this polish is perfect because upon seeing the color, I immediately thought of the stars in the night sky. The purple is so deep and rich in color yet the glitter still shines through in a way that compliments the polish but doesn’t overwhelm it. I liked the way the glitter caught the light without being cheap looking as most glitters in dark colors tend to do.
SpaRitual – Dreamsicle
I’ve never met a pink I didn’t like, Dreamsicle was no exception. A neon pink creme, this color popped when I first saw the kit and I couldn’t wait to get it on my nails. I was a little disappointed though because after three coats, the whites of my nails are still visible. This may work best with shorter nails. Clearly I’m not ready to give up on this polish just yet.
SpaRitual – Looking Glass
Last but not least we have Looking Glass, a metallic silver foil shimmer. Believe it or not, what you see there is one coat. Opacity in just one coat? Holy pigmentation Batman, imagine what it would look like with two!
Overall I am very satisfied with this kit. It has a decent variety of shimmers, cremes, and glitters and most of the polishes were very pigmented. I also really liked that it came with a duo base coat and topcoat. The dry time for all of these polishes, even the ones I used three coats for, was pretty quick. By the time I got finished with one hand, the other was dry. Also I was really worried about staining with the darker and more pigmented colors but that would turn out to be something I didn’t have to worry about at all. The shimmers and glitters also came off easily without destroying my nail beds, something that seriously deters me from wearing glitter as much as I would like. Obviously in all kits there a couple of misses but mostly these were hits and I look forward to trying more colors from SpaRitual.
