I’m not a beauty or fashion blogger by any means, obviously nail polish is my forte, but I like trying new styles and products. Birchbox is the perfect way to try out a vast array of products you otherwise wouldn’t and it’s only $10 a month so it’s not too much of a splurge. One thing I really enjoy about Birchbox is their sample sizes are very decent to you can get more than one use out of the product and really see how it works for you. Another perk? Most, if not all, of their products are environmentally friendly, organic, and/or vegan so you can use them guilt free knowing you’re not contributing to any unnecessary animal cruelty or using/ consuming animal byproduct. I anxiously await my Birchbox every month and this month’s box did not disappoint.
August’s Birchbox (L-R)
Hello Breathspray in Pink Grapefruit Mint
Harvey Prince Ageless
Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream – Acai Grapefruit
Acure Organics Brightening Facial Scrub
Noir Cosmetics Long-Wear Eyeliner
I believe I have referenced how much I love perfume samples so I was happy to receive Ageless by Harvey Prince. Ageless is described as a “grapefruit-sandalwood blend” that “leaves skin smelling youthful”. Youthful indeed. One whiff of this and I was instantly transported back to my tween years in the late 90s, to the Cotton Candy Juice Bar body spray. Come on, you ladies know what I’m talking about. It’s not my favorite perfume sample I’ve received but I’ve been feeling nostalgic lately so it’s a keeper. Also, it’s grapefruit scented and it’s as if Birchbox knows how much I like grapefruit because three of the five samples in the box are grapefruit flavored/ scented.
The Hello breathspray was a surprise but very fitting for my current situation – TMJ. After a year of some pretty serious dental work, I started to get severe pains in my jaw which I attributed to some tooth needing a filling or an ear infection or even worse that my wisdom teeth somehow grew back. Twice in a week’s time I was in the dental chair only for her to tell me all of my x-rays came back okay, my teeth were fine, and I didn’t need any fillings. She prescribed me some extra strength OTC Tylenol and sent me on my way. The next day I was back in her office in tears because my whole entire jaw, lower face, and now ears hurt so bad to the point they were ringing. She ran some tests and confirmed with a specialist who finally told me the pain I was feeling was a result of TMJ. Crap. One of the the things she suggested was to stop chewing gum which has proven to be sort of difficult because I am a gum fiend. Gum has now been replaced with mints and with the Hello Pink Grapefruit breathspray, my mint collection has just gotten more flavorful and makes saying goodbye to gum a bit easier. I’m excited to try the other products, mostly the eyeliner because I love a good dark black eyeliner.
Also waiting for me when I got home were a new pair of Tory Burch ‘Reva’ Ballerina Flats.
Tory Burch ‘Reva’ Ballerina Flat
I originally purchased these at Nordstrom back in April when they were having an amazing sale. Because I am a cavewoman and tend to drag my feet when I walk, these shoes could only withstand so much abuse before they finally started to crack under the pressure. One day I looked down and my left foot was talking to me, yikes! I only ever buy shoes from Nordstrom because of their amazing customer service and return/ exchange policy. When I took these in last week I was met with a smile, an apology, and an offer to have them replaced and shipped to my house free of charge. Customer service is lacking in so many places nowadays so I will always always ALWAYS shop at Nordstrom because even though they can be a bit pricier, you definitely get what you pay for. If I’m paying good money for something I expect to be treated like a valuable customer and a lot of stores don’t get that these days. Anyways I’m very happy my new shoes are here but now I’m scared to wear them for fear of damaging them again. Guess they’ll be in the box until I learn to pick up my feet and walk like a Homo Sapien not a Neanderthal.
Have you bought or received anything awesome lately?
