I don’t normally do red nail polish, clothes, or lip color (any lip color for that matter) other than during Christmastime and the Holidays which is unfortunately not for another 85 days but lately a bug has bit me and I’m thinking red everything! This past weekend I walked into Sephora looking for a red lip color, not too loudor brash, something sheer with a hint of color. The sales associate was really helpful and funny. She went on this passionate spiel about how red isn’t a color you can foist upon a woman, that she must embrace it herself and be ready for it. She then told me to come see her when I was ready for real red but in the meantime she directed me to Fresh Sugar Rose Tinted Lip Treatment, what she refers to as “sheer baby red”. I really like it so far and find that is nourishing while providing me with the perfect hint of color.
Yesterday I found myself thinking “this outfit would look so good with red nail polish” and “gee I could go for some red right now” which never ever happens! I was due for a pedicure so I figured to myself I would satisfy the red bug by painting my toenails red but that wasn’t enough so now I’m walking around with red nails and I am totally digging it!
Spoiled by Wet N Wild Hit the Brakes is a true classic red with a jelly finish which is a change from most reds since I find most of them have creme finishes. The jelly finish and a nice glossy top coat make this color pop and look very chic on my little nubs. I applied three coats of this polish because even though two was enough to get to bottle color, I could still see the tips of my fingernails. Hit the Brakes is really easy to work with, smooth with no bubbles or streaks and exceptionally fast-drying. Even with three coats and putting this on thirty minutes before bed, I awoke with no smudges or sheet stains. I really like the way this polish turned out on my nails.
Red is one of those colors that look nice regardless of finger nail length and shape. I always steered clear of it because I thought it was too cliche and predictable, like a French manicure, however I really have been trying to not get stuck in style and polish ruts and red is something I can definitely see myself adding to my regular rotation!
